2009 Installation

Worshipful Brother Alan Higson was installed as Master for 2009 - 2010 at our meeting on Saturday 21st March.
Worshipful Brother Alan has been a member of Rochester Lodge for over 4 years and is a joining member from Artifex Lodge No 4555 where he was Master from November 2007 to November 2008.

Since joining, Alan has shown his commitment to Rochester Lodge by spending a year as Tyler and another as ADC. During his year as ADC he covered and performed the duties of Director of Ceremonies when the DC was unavoidably absent. Alan is also the engineer of the Lodge website and brings with him an unflappable character and a sense of humour that should see him in good stead during his year in the Chair.

A Second Degree is planned to kick off his year in April and he and his wife Judi are already looking forward to their Ladies Festival.
It is interesting to note that although W. Bro. Alan begins his term of office in the 98th year of the Lodge, he will in fact be the 94th Master as four Brethren have been through the chair on more than one occasion.

Worshipful Brother Kevin Witham completed two years in the Chair when he installed his successor. A number of other changes to officers took place at the Installation. Key amongst these was W. Bro. Trevor Boughen who took over as Treasurer from Bro. John Willmott and W. Bro. John Baker who succeeded Wor. Bro. John Johnson as Charity Steward.

We give both Brethren our best wishes in carrying out these very important roles. They take over from two Brethren who have served the Lodge well for a significant numbers of years. Bro. John Willmott performed the difficult task of Treasurer for 8 years and W. Bro. John Johnson completed ten years as Charity Steward where the results of his raffles have passed into legend and under whose guidance the Lodge attained the Gold Award for the previous Charity Festival.

At the Regular Meeting in February, Worshipful Brother Kevin Witham thanked both Brethren on behalf of the Lodge for their contributions over many years. It must also be mentioned that Worshipful Brother Johnny Reed of our daughter Lodge, Lodge De Wydemere, has become our Guest Organist for the year ahead. John is well known throughout the Medway Towns and to all of us for his music and humour and we welcome him into our fold.

The bond that members of the Rochester Lodge have formed with the Abercorn Masonic Lodge No 114, Province of Down, Northern Ireland, means that we were again honoured with a number of visitors from Belfast at the Installation meeting. Notable among them, although in an unofficial capacity, was The Right Worshipful Brother Rodney McCurley, Provincial Deputy Grand Master for the Province of Down, and Representative of The Grand Lodge of Victoria (Australia) at the Grand Lodge of Ireland.

Our Irish Brethren have visited us on two previous occasions and they always bring with them a special friendly ambience that we are always happy to reciprocate.
