Bro Ivan Smith
has put on his "Red Tail Coat" for the last time. After 65 years of keeping order at Weddings,
Party's and of course Masonic Ladies Nights, Bro. Ivan Smith chose the occasion of the
Rochester Lodge Ladies Festival to formally announce his retirement.
The occasion attracted over 180 revellers at the St George Hotel in Chatham, on Saturday February 27th
where the Provincial Webmaster, WBro Alan Higson and his wife, Judi were hosting the Rochester Lodge 2010 Ladies Festival.
Bro. Ivan had promised Judi that he would act as Toastmaster when Alan was Master of his mother Lodge in 2008, but unfortunately
the event had to be cancelled.
When WBro. Alan unexpectedly became the master of The Rochester Lodge 3494, Judi had a second chance to host a Ladies Night.
She immediately asked Bro. Ivan to be the Toastmaster and although he had
considered himself retired, he agreed to officiate, "Just one more time".
It turned out to be a double celebration for the Worshipful Master and his Lady, as it was also WBro. Alan's 60th birthday.
Judi's chosen Charity, The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, will receive the proceeds of the main raffle amounting to about
£500 and a further £100, raised by a raffle for a computer, will be given for the
rescue and rehoming of Northern Inuit Dogs.
